Yes, I felt compelled to photograph my 22 month old daughter yesterday, while she was sitting on the potty. It was another one of those mommy moments that I had to document. I found this moment humorous because she was dying (pitching a loud fit ) to try out Rush’s old potty-training seat… and refused to take off her red glitter shoes. This girl is obsessed with shoes. I didn’t know that a toddler could be a fanatic for shoes… but she is! Haha! She screams with delight every time she receives a new pair… and luckily for her, she has the big Nance feet genes (my husband wears a 13 and his twin sister who is 5’4” wears a 10)… so her feet are growing fast. She wore these shoes all day yesterday. She even refused to take them off during nap time. Her ankles have blisters, where the cheap Target shoes rubbed her skin, but that doesn’t seem to bother her one bit. If it were me wearing those shoes, I’d have taken them off the minute a blister appeared. She cracks me up!
Naturally, this moment brought out the diva in her. She wanted up and then down and then up and then back down and then back up again. She never actually used the potty, but she had a great time testing it out. I wanted to render these photographs in black and white, but the slippers forbid me from doing so. Their redness was so striking that the black and white versions stripped the originals of their prominent sparkle. I was testing out my new 24 mm lens for these shots. It was another experimentation that will become famous in the Nance household… these pictures will never be shown to future boyfriends, so don’t worry. But they will go in the baby book! FYI, I decided to place my watermark in the center of my photographs even if it is an aesthetic distraction… call me paranoid, but I’ve read too many blogs recently about photographs being stolen and used without credit to the photographer. Not that anyone would steal these, of course… but I had to start tweaking my watermarks at some point in time because you just never know. I hope you enjoy these photographs… And I hope all the moms out there get a kick out of these. There’s no place like home!!!!
